Piyush Goyal Holds High-Level Meetings with U.S. Business Leaders in New York to Boost India–U.S. Trade and Investment

Discussions with Blackstone, IBM, MetLife, Estée Lauder, General Atlantic, Neuberger Berman and AIA Group focus on expanding investments and business partnerships in India

New Delhi/New York : Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Shri Piyush Goyal held a series of meetings with senior executives of leading U.S. companies in New York this week, focusing on opportunities to strengthen India–U.S. trade and economic ties and encouraging major American companies to explore investment opportunities in India.

Engagement with leading global investors

Goyal met Blackstone President & COO Jonathan Gray and Prakash Melwani, Chairman of Blackstone’s International Private Equity business. The discussions centred on expanding Blackstone’s investments and partnerships in India across key sectors.

The Minister also met George Walker, Chairman & CEO of Neuberger Berman, along with members of the company’s senior leadership team. Discussions explored avenues for deepening investment linkages and expanding engagement in financial and wealth management services.

Manufacturing, beauty and consumer market opportunities

During his meeting with Stéphane de La Faverie, President & CEO of The Estée Lauder Companies, Goyal discussed the company’s growth opportunities in India, including the potential for increased manufacturing and sourcing. The two sides also discussed the rapid expansion of India’s beauty and personal care market.

Focus on AI, cloud and emerging technologies

In a meeting with Arvind Krishna, Chairman and CEO of IBM, discussions focused on further strengthening IBM’s engagement with India and expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence, cloud infrastructure, quantum computing and other emerging technologies.

The Minister also met Michel A. Khalaf, President and CEO of MetLife, with discussions covering the company’s growth prospects in India and opportunities arising from the expansion of the country’s insurance and financial services sector.

Investment opportunities across sectors

Goyal met William E. Ford, Chairman & CEO of General Atlantic, and discussed opportunities to further deepen the investment firm’s business engagement and partnership with India.

He also held discussions with Mark Tucker, Non-Executive Chairman of AIA Group, focusing on AIA’s engagement in India and opportunities in the insurance and financial services sectors, including in the context of India’s vision of ‘Insurance for All by 2047’.

Strengthening India–U.S. economic partnership

The series of meetings provided an opportunity to highlight India’s growth prospects and investment opportunities across a wide range of sectors, including financial services, manufacturing, energy, technology and artificial intelligence.

The discussions also explored ways to further expand commercial partnerships and strengthen the broader India–U.S. economic and trade relationship, with greater participation from leading American companies in India’s growth story.
